Ruby Anima

A million blades on the surface of my hand
I touch her shoulder and she bleeds from the heart
I touch myself and pleasure is pain
"Keep your clothes on, the demon is here."
I reach out to understand the cause of her fear
She recoils, I rub my wrists in the awkwardness
I feel a bit faint, never better
I rub a little more to check the weather
Ruby rain starts to fall and I check for the door
It's still just a little cracked
I turn to see her exposed satin back
So many scratches, I guess that's on me
I guess I understand why she doesn't meet my eye
The rain falling harder, it's flooding the doorway
I approach the door like a thief in the night
I look through the slit and I see lovers laughing
Kin sharing stories with crowns on their heads
Their smiles fade as they notice the flooding
They step over the puddles of ruby rain
They head for the stairs to get to higher ground
Just out of sight, I hear their laughs reignite
I turn back to her and she seems to be trembling
I said "I guess that it's just me and you"
Each breath that she takes seems to betray her, she can't escape the pain of her skin
With heavy heart, I close the door
To meet both of my knees, I fall to the floor
My head is held down by the demon, in fact
She turns to me as the flooding reaches my naval
and joins me with a hug
Our chin is now lost to the darkened ocean
Our mouth and nose filling with Kool-Aid
Our eyes now blind, we see through the roses
and we're tied up in the vines
The room is a casket with red inner lining
A velvet escape from our cycle of pain
The people upstairs don't realize what happened
They smile at the funeral, right to our face
